WHAT IS ADAM TRELOAR’S STRONGEST ATTRIBUTE?

Breakaway speed from stoppages and a knack for finding the football are what make Adam Treloar a unique midfielder in his own right. While his kicking efficiency (57.5% across his career) is a concern, as well as soft tissue injuries, there is no questioning Treloar’s status as a legitimate A-grade midfielder.

In his career to date among midfielders, Treloar has ranked elite for disposals per game (28), contested (11) and uncontested possessions (16.7), bounces (1.4), effective disposals (19.7), stoppage clearances (3.2) and score involvements (6.1). He also ranks above average for goals (94), metres gained (355.9), inside 50s (3.7), total clearances (4.7) and tackles (4.9).

His stat lines showcase the balance Treloar has within his game. His grit combined with his pace afford him the luxury to play as both an inside or an outside midfielder.

WHERE WOULD ADAM TRELOAR FIT IN CARLTON’S STARTING 22?

It’s pretty simple – Adam Treloar would be among Carlton’s top tier talents and a starting 22 player each week. The biggest concern around Treloar is whether or not his body can hold up. Recurring soft tissue injuries have compiled across his career, and at 28 years old these traditionally do not become any easier to manage as time goes on.

Despite his injury luck, Treloar has shown on countless occasions why he is among the top echelon of midfielders in the competition. With 3 games in his career of 40+ disposals, Treloar’s ability to get his hands on the football and create opportunities for his team is evident. This was on full display in a Round 10 match in 2018 vs. the Western Bulldogs. Collingwood walked away as 35 point winners, and Treloar amassed 40 disposals to go with 2 goals, 5 tackles, 6 inside 50s, 5 clearances and 2 bounces. It netted him the 3 Brownlow votes, also.

Carlton do not have a midfielder capable of doing what Treloar does almost weekly. At the right price, he’d be a superb addition to the current crop of players.

WHAT IS ADAM TRELOAR’S CONTRACT STATUS?

The recent falling out between Treloar and the Collingwood Football Club has been well documented since the 2020 season came to a close. A heavily back-ended contract and publicly stating that their preference is to trade Treloar has clubs circling for the prolific midfielder. The Pies have also said they would pay a partial amount to Treloar’s contract if he were to move. The media commentary surrounding the situation has been just at damning for Treloar’s future as a Magpie:

It’s not humane and it’s not the way you treat people… I’m just thinking from Adam’s point of view… imagine how he’s feeling now. – Brendon Goddard

I just wonder why Collingwood are prepared to sweep other issues confronting certain players under the carpet at their club, but they’re not willing to support one of its marquee players through this. – Kane Cornes

At this point, not many can see Treloar pulling on the prison bar guernsey next season. With the Blues’ TPP in a solid position to bring in another marquee player, the jungle drums are starting to beat louder down at Ikon Park to bring this boyhood Bluebagger to his rightful home. Could there be a late play for Treloar to come by Austin and his team?
