GWS reject carltons first offer for lachie whitfield as talks hit a stalemate

Carlton are looking to add run off half-back in the ongoing trade period with Lachie Whitfield being the leading name to do that. Whitfield undertook a medical at Carlton last week before the beginning of the trade period. Keidean Coleman and Nick Blakey are other half-backs which have been on the trade block this off-season, but Carlton are yet to make a move for either yet.
Lachie Whtifield has been the leading name but we are yet to see a serious update on the possibility of a move to get him to Ikon Park. However, Xander McGuire gave the first update today via X as the talks are now in a stalemate. Carlton have reportedly offered pick 24 to GWS if they are willing to trade Whitfield this off-season.
But GWS are not interested in this as they don’t think they need to add another second round draft pick to their current draft hand. Currently, GWS hold pick 25 and 29 in that range so adding pick 24 wouldn’t be a huge get. Carlton could offer pick 16 to GWS to try and complete a move, but Carlton will likely try and hold onto that pick to match a father/son bid for Cody Walker.
Carlton will only be able to use two picks to match a bid for Cody Walker. Walker is expected to be a top five pick so the Blues need pick 16 alongside pick 11 to match any bid. Nonetheless, that might not be enough. Carlton will need to watch the movements of other teams to see where a bid for Walker will come in the draft during the trade period.
